New York improviser: James St. Jean

James St. Jean

My name is James St. Jean, and I didn’t act a day of my life until I went to college. Then my advisor my first semester at Brockport recommended I take an improv class. Then the teacher of that class recommended I join the local improv troupe. After that I majored in acting and graduated with a theater arts degree. I then went on to intern at the Geva regional theater where I met tony award winning playwright Greg Kotis and he guided me while I wrote a play called Everybody Gets Ice Cream. Then I moved back downstate to Long Island where I started performing with TAPNYC, I took playwriting classes at the Acting Studio, and I began doing commercial work. Everybody Gets Ice Cream revived a private reading, and my play Hating Charlie got produced at the Thespis Theater Festival. I then began taking classes at UCB and am now part of two teams: Kerrigan and Family Sauna. I am also now coached by the Tank’s Leah Evans, and by UCB’s John T.
