New York improviser: Patty Devery

Patty Devery

Patty Devery attended Illinois Wesleyan University where she received a Bachelor of Music Education with a Vocal Concentration. While there, she participated in the grand tradition of college a cappella, co-founding the female ensemble A Touch of Class. Also at IWU, she was a member of Quickies Sketch Comedy Troupe and performed in numerous student productions. Instead of teaching after graduating, she ran away to live in Madrid, Spain, before moving to New York City. While in New York, Patty has studied improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre with many great teachers, including Ari Voukydis, Joe Wengert, Gavin Speiller, Doug Moe, Brandon Gardner, and Eliza Skinner. Patty performed for two years with improv group MacGuffin and is currently making magic with musical improv group Dumpster Tequila. When not performing in New York, Chicago, Boston, and Phoenix, she makes vlogs as Patty & Emily with Emily Faye Oakley, blogs about pop culture on her blog The Definition of Pop Culture and corrects people's grammar.
