Lulu French has been improvising for the past fifteen years. She started improv taking classes at Gotham City Improv and has appeared in numerous improv shows at Gotham including the long-running Off the Top of Our Heads. Â Lulu taught all levels of improvisation at Gotham for ten years and has directed several of Gothamâ€™s performance ensembles. Â Lulu has also taught improv to youths for Broadway Classrooms, Arts Horizons, The Performance Classroom, CentreStage, and NYU drama students at Stonestreet Studios. She is currently teaching Kinetic Improv classes for the Improvisation News Conservatory.
Lulu performed with the Magnet house team, Ransom Family and currently performs as one half of the duo of Beilis and French as well as with the indie group Duvall (both directed by Jay Rhoderick of Centralia) and recently joined the cast of the award winning musical improv show Broadway's Next Hit Musical.
TV and film credits include various roles on â€œLate Night with Conan Oâ€™Brienâ€ and â€œYearbook:1983â€ on the Discovery Times Channel. Corporate industrial credits include performing for companies such as Pfizer, Cephalon, and Merck. Internet performances include the JCPenney viral campaign, "Return to the Doghouse" and various videos for Spitball Collective (YouTube). Lulu also hosts and writes the "Mommy Minute" on the website Parent Society TV. Â In addition to her study at GCI she has also studied at the Magnet and with the Upright Citizens Brigade including Amy Poehler, Matt Besser and Matt Walsh, and various other Chicago improv alumni including Todd Stashwick and Kevin Scott.â€¨Â
â€¨Before becoming an improviser, Lulu was a musical theater performer. She started dancing when she was six and danced with the Appalachian Ballet Company in her youth. She also received various voice scholarships while a Music Major at The University of Tennessee and eventually graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. Â She has numerous stock and regional theater credits performing in musicals such as Into the Woods, Tomfoolery, Nunsense, and the national tours of My Fair Lady and She Loves Me.
